About the Persol 649

Originally released in 1957, the Persol 649 sunglasses model has remained an enduring icon. The frame was designed to protect Turin's tram drivers from dust and glare, but they became truly famous when Italian actor Marcello Mastroianni wore them in the 1961 film Divorce Italian Style, becoming the brand's first icon. Later the frame became available as the 714 'folding' variation, which was then made even more famous than the 649 thanks to actor Steve McQueen wearing them in several photos and movies.
