Shaft is the fifth film in the Shaft film series and a sequel to the 2000 film with the same title. Richard Roundtree played John Shaft in the first Shaft films in the 1970s, Samuel L Jackson played John Shaft II in the 2000 film, and now Jessie T. Usher plays John "JJ" Shaft Jr., the (grand)son of Shaft in the 2019 film.
